Nebraska

Beatrice

  • Beatrice Pet Park. Two separate park areas. One small, the other a little larger, separated by fence. Both areas fully fenced with double gates and poop bags at the entrance. Both little parks have picnic tables and a few large trees. Just a small little park, but the shock is that it is the only place in all of Nebraska that we know of to take your dog off the leash! A cute little spot. Nothing amazing, but the spirit of the place was in the right place. Quite professionally put together. Location: Highway 77. Directions: On Highway 77, south of Lincoln, is Beatrice. The dog park is on the right as you start to leave town heading south towards Kansas. (Thank you Greg Robertson)

Bellevue

  •  Capehart Dog Park. A big fenced in area dog park just seconds from Offutt AirForce Base. They do have poop bags and trashcans but bring your own just in case they run out. Big and small dogs all play together in one big, open area. Location: (South of)25 and Capehart. Directions: Turn right on 36th Street off of 370 toward Offutt. Dog Park is on left side of street across from Scooters State Farm. (Thank you Summer Leoni)

LaPlatte

  •  LaPlatte Dog Park. A baseball field transformed into a dog park. Completely fenced in. Has doggy bags and a trash can and water in season. There are trees for shade and a bench to sit on. It is however just one enclosure so large and small dogs must play together. So, use your best judgment. Typical dog park rules apply: Only during daylight, no dogs under 4 months of age, must be current on all vaccinations, dogs must be controlled and must pick up after your pet. Location: Parking area is located at 23rd ST and Capehart RD then you walk behind the basketball court to the park which is at 22nd ST. Directions: Park at 23rd St and Capehart RD, walk behind the basketball court and enter thru the double enclosure and the leash free area is located at 22nd and Capehart RD. (Thank you Sarah Pickering)

Lincoln

  • Holmes Lake Dog Run. A very large dog run. There is a creek for the dogs to play in, and wide, open fields for them to run in. I'm not sure of the exact size, but it's HUGE. It also has picnic tables for owners to sit and talk, and several poop bins, etc. The area is wonderful with lots of trees and such. A great place. Location: South 70th Street, across from Holmes lake (In between Pioneers and Van Dorn). (Thank you Jennifer Hendren & Jeff Totten)

Norfolk

  • TaHaZouka Park. The off-leash dog recreation area consists of two separate and secure areas. There is a small area, .38 acres, for smaller and less active dogs and a larger area, 1.68 acres, for larger and more active dogs. Both areas are surrounded by six-foot chain-link fencing with access through a double gated entrance for a more secure setting. There is water available, benches, dog waste baggies, a trash can, plenty of shade and if the need arises; there is a fire hydrant for those dogs that just have to have one. TaHaZouka Park consists of 99 acres along the Elkhorn River and has camping, cabins, picnic shelters, grills, bathroom facilities, canoe access to the Elkhorn River, and fishing. The park also serves as a trailhead for the Cowboy Trail, a rails-to-trails conversion project that is dog-friendly (leashes required). The trail runs for 100+ miles currently (2005) and will be 321 miles when completed. Location: 2201 South 13th Street. Directions: The park is on the southeast side of town, approximately one mile south of the intersection of Hwy 275 (Michigan Ave) and Hwy 81 (13th Street) on the east side of the road. The off-leash area is northeast of the campground and Ballfield #5. (Thank you Nanette Day)

Omaha

  • Chalco Hills Recreation Area. Dog trail in southern Omaha. Boundry between dog walking area and road is fenced. However, there are open entries that allow dog to free leave and depart the walking area. Maintain constant control of your dog to assure they do not wonder into the road. Location: Parking lot below the dam on Wehrspann Lake in Chalco Hills Recreation Area has an authorized dog walking area. Directions: 154th St & Giles Rd - Easy access from 144th Street South turning right onto Giles or; from Interstate 80, head north on 144th and turn left onto Giles.
