friendly owners too! Location: Fenced in area on Astoria Park South, AND open
area (no fence) on 10th street next to the pool. Directions: Astoria Blvd to
the end, make a right on 10th, open (no fence) play area will be on left past
the pool. Or Astoria Blvd, make a left on 21st then a right on Astoria Park
South follow to the end, the park will be in front of you. The open play area

Prospect Park. Three off leash areas: The Longmedow, The Nethermead, and
The Peninsula Meadow. Prospect Park is one of New
York Cities best parks and is about 563 acres. The park is also used by
joggers, cyclists, Frisbee players, baseball players, softball players,
soccer players, catch and release fishermen, horseback riders, radio control
model aircraft, picnickers, bird watchers, roller-bladers, skateboarders,
kite flyers, paddle-boaters, metal detector hobbyists, sunbathers,
photographers, musicians, boxers, various martial artists, school groups,
day camps in the summer, and concert goers some summer evenings. For the
most part, the three off leash dog areas are used by the dogs and there
owners during off leash hours. We also have some parents who bring children
into the dog area during dog hours for the social experience. Some of the
children are in strollers, infants may be on the parents chest or back, and
the occasional child will chase a dog but is usually quickly corrected by a
parent or informed dog handler. There are no breed restrictions. There are
no sex or age restrictions, but most people have the common sense to not
bring in bitches in heat, and to give extra close monitoring to a dog that
has some social issues. Or not bring in a young puppy, especially not to the
dog beach. (There is a designated dog beach and a swim area at the Peninsula
as well.) There is enough space that a dog who displays aggression can be go
to a different section of the meadow while his handlers gradually introduce
him to other dogs. People and dogs and other groups get along quite well
generally. Off
leash dogs should be under voice command, especially for Stay and for a
Recall. The park is mostly wheel chair accessible, has restrooms that are
also wheelchair accessible, hills are gentle and rolling topped with trees.
The Parks Dept. tries to keep Olmsteads landscape architecture as close as
feasible. The human and dog population is very diverse. There is lots of
shade and water. Water fountains are however turned off in the winter. The
surrounding area has many great places to eat, from bagels to burgers, pizza
to Chinese food, fast food to slow food. After 9 am dogs must be on a leash,
and the dogs tend to go home. There are only a few dogs that go into the
park after dark, but occasionally you can see a blinking light on a collar
in the dark. Prospect Park is a very safe park but one should exercise
caution and avoid being alone in isolated areas. The park is patrolled by
parks enforcement units as well as the NYPD both of whom may issue summons
for dogs being off a leash during non off leash hours. There is virtually no
crime in the off leash dog areas during off leash hours. There have been
reports of crimes in isolated areas of the park that lack dogs. The
expansive acreage and cleanup rules keep the park grass areas clean and
prime for rolls in the grass and sitting in the warmer months. Prospect park
does not use pesticides or herbicides on the grass areas but may in wooded
areas selectively. Oh,
and no digging. Holes are a trip hazard. Also no chasing the wildlife like
squirrels ducks, and other birds. Plus you should stay off the bridle path,
which is unmarked as such, but the horse droppings will clue you in. Come
and have fun Feel free to bring a ball or something.

- The Longmeadow. Off Leash activity for dogs in 90
acres in the Long meadow, before 9 am, after 5 pm summer hours, after 9 pm
winter hours. The weekend mornings in the Long Meadow may see several hundred
dogs. The first Saturday of every month there is a Coffee Bark from 7 am to 9
am. Free doggie cookies, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, pastries, danish,
muffins, donuts and sometimes hard boiled eggs, Very rarely scrambled eggs
with cheese. Most but not all dogs keep there paws off the table. At about
one and a half miles and 90 acres The Longmeadow in Prospect Park is
perhaps the largest open space off leash area in the United States. It is
unfenced . Boundaries of trees, hills, a road closed to all but parks dept.
traffic before nine am and a stone wall (with many exits) surrounds the park.
and numerous dogs and attentive owners and handlers in a lovely meadow keep
dogs entertained and intellectually stimulated, and socially engaged.

Neathermead, before 9 am, and after 5 pm, and about three acheres in the

The Penisula Meadow
Location:
Grand Army Plaza and Flatbush. There are many places to enter Prospect Park, please keep your dog on a
leash until you are in a designated off leash area and only do so at
designated times. Prospect Park Southwest, Prospect Park West, Parkside
Avenue, Ocean Avenue, and Grand Army Plaza. Parking may be tough, but not impossible. Bring your own poop bags. trash

- Eastwood Park. Park in El Paso. Park is
located exactly where described, but the agility equipment is no longer there.
The fenced enclosures that housed the agility equipment are still there though
and the park is a wonderful place to take your pet! Location: Album and

Fresh Meadows
- Cunningham Park. Dog Run. Dogs allowed
throughout park and on trails on leash and there is a separate fenced
off-leash dog run. You will be asked to leave if your dog is aggressive.
Location: Francis Lewis Boulevard and Union Turnpike. Directions: LIE or Grand

Guilderland
- Guilderland Dog Park. Large fenced-in,
off-leash area. Has water spigot, trees for shade, a few benches, chairs and
even a picnic table! Also has a floodlight for evening use. Partially
snowplowed in winter. Location: Nott Rd. Directions: From Western Ave., take
Rt. 155 south toward Voorheesville. Turn right onto Nott Rd. Turn at sign for
Ball Park. Turn left at wastewater treatment facility, and follow gravel road

Huntington
- Coindre Hall.
Multi use park on leash? 6 acre county park no fee water, shade, access to
harbor swimming. part was off leash but in dispute. off leash at risk of
tickets but unfenced. Location: Brown's Road. Directions: 25a north on wall
street then left onto Southdown road then right at the light onto brown's road
just past the Unitarian church is the entrance with Suffolk county park sign.

West Hills Dog Park. New
1.75 Acre Park. Location: Sweet Hollow Road. Directions: The best thing to do
is go to our page which lists all the legal dog parks on Long Island complete

- West Hills County Park. Great park with
8-miles of trails also enclosed dog run for small and timid dogs. Location: Round Swamp Road.
Directions: LIE or Northern State Parkway to Round Swamp Road exit. Go north -

Kingston
- Kingston Point. Put dogs back on leash if
they bother any walkers or people eating. Picnic, areas, trails, open areas.
Location: East end of Delaware Ave past baseball diamond. Directions: Take
Delaware St exit off Rte 9W. Go east to end of Delaware. Avoid beach. Go

Lido Beach
- Lido Beach Dog Park. Large area for
large dogs and smaller area for small dogs. Parking is available. Location:
South of Lido Blvd. Directions: Meadowbrook Pkwy South to Loop Pkwy/Long
Beach/Lido Beach. At the end of Loop Parkway, follow signs for Long/Lido
Beach, road will turn right, this is now Lido Blvd. The dog park will be on
your left, about 3/4 of mile. Look for a sign that says "Nickerson Beach
Park", make the left into the park, follow the road past a stop sign. Once
past the stop sign continue about 1000 yards, you'll see a very large
parking area on the left, after you make the left into the parking area, the
dog park is on the right side. Be aware in the summertime there is a parking
fee of 4 or 6 dollars between 10am-3pm-ish.. Fall and winter no charge.

- Nassau Beach Park. Beach

Liverpool
- Good Dog Park. Fenced. Very
nice park. All fenced in. There are two fenced in areas. One is for dogs
under 25 lbs only, the other is for all sizes. Leashes not required. There
is also a little obstacle course for the dogs with ramps, tunnels, and
'gates' to jump through. Also has a dog water fountain (on from April 15
till November). Directions: Rte. 370 entrance of Onondaga Lake Park in Liverpool, New
York. From the village of Liverpool, take Rte 370 west. Go through the light
at John Glenn Blvd. Entrance to the park is on the left, towards the lake. Dog waste bags are
provided. Benches for the humans are available, and area is treed. Park is
located within the larger public park, and there is no cost to enter. Park is

in Manhattan's St. Nicholas Park. This large dog run is in a beautiful
area of an historic park in Manhattan's West Harlem area. The run also
includes an area for smaller dogs. Location: center of St. Nicholas Park
between 135th and 137th streets. Directions: Follow directions to Manhattan
and then to Harlem (north of Central Park) for 135th street and St. Nicholas
Avenue.

- Blydenburg Dog Park. During
summer there is a fee to park -- but you can park across the street at the
state Denision buildings and walk up to the dog park. The dog park is at the
far end of the park past the camping grounds. It is 1.8 acres enclosed and
there is a divided area for the smaller dogs. It has a great bunch of regulars
and the dog seem to enjoy it. Area for small dogs separate from large
dog area. Treed area for shade. Benches and water available. Completely
fenced. Open from dawn to dusk. Location: In Blydenburg County Park. Entrance
